Within the walls of the Unicorn Suite you can sometimes find Whitney Anthony. Her desk may be here at Family Service of Roanoke Valley, but the majority of her work takes place out in the community.
Throughout Whitney’s internship she is working within the Therapeutic Day Treatment program at the West End Center for Youth. She also works as a community counselor for West End as well as the Cultural Arts for Excellence afterschool and enrichment programs.
Whitney has envisioned herself working with kids from an early age. She went into her undergraduate degree with hopes of pursuing an education degree and becoming a teacher. She remembers realizing fairly quickly that counseling children was what she truly wanted to do.
“Working with kids is the most rewarding job on the planet. They may not always say ‘thank you’, but you can see how grateful they are through their actions.”
Whitney currently possesses a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She is well on her way to receiving her master’s in social work from Radford University. She expects to be done with her candidacy in May 2019.
Her favorite quote comes from Lady Bird Johnson:
“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.”
