Our Mission To connect adult mentors with middle and high school youth, helping them develop a positive sense of self and purpose.
Our Goals
- To link youth with role models in one-on-one mentoring relationships
- To give youth a feeling of trust and support from adults who care
- To empower youth so they can make choices that will better their future
- To create a sense of value in the community by encouraging volunteerism
Outcomes and Benefits of Mentoring
Volunteering as a mentor gives youth the tools they need to succeed. Research shows many positive outcomes from mentoring relationships.
Youth with mentors are:
- More likely to stay in school and improve attendance
- More likely to earn higher grades and attend college
- More likely to trust other adults and have higher goals and expectations of themselves
What is a Mentor? Mentors commit to spendng four hours a month during one school year with an individual student doing both social and service activities together. You can meet in the afternoons, weekday evenings or on the weekends. While various group activities are planned, participants are encouraged to do their own thing with their teen.
Do You Have What it Takes to be a Mentor? You can be a mentor:
- If you are at least 18 years old and have four free hours a month to spend with a youth
- If you enjoy participating in planned group events and unplanned individual activities with youth
- If you are open to new experiences and new people
- If you like the idea of being important in the life a child
- if you have the desire to help a child succeed as a student, an individual, and as a member of our community
